About the President’s Volunteer Service Award

Established in 2003 by The Presidential Council on Service and Citizenship, The President's  Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) is a nationally recognized, high-quality volunteer program  designed to encourage U.S. citizens and permanent residents to actively participate in and serve  their community 

 

Qualification of Tyee PTSA 

The Tyee Middle School PTSA is a non-profit parent’s volunteer organization serving for Tyee  Middle School. We were awarded the Presidential Volunteer Award in June 2022. 

Responsibility of Awarding Committee 

  • Verify the volunteer hours required to earn the award. 
  • Verify volunteers are U.S. citizens or lawfully admitted permanent U.S. residents. 
  • Pay the nominal cost of PVSA awards, including shipping. Certifying Organizations may not charge volunteers for the PVSA award and volunteers are not permitted to purchase awards. 
  • Receive and distribute the awards package to volunteers. 
  • Take the Certifying Organization e-course once every 12 months. 
  • Establish procedures to ensure compliance with PVSA eligibility and other program requirements. 
  • Revoke a PVSA when information is presented that any awardee did not meet criteria for the Award.  
  • Maintain a data bank that provides the capability to retrieve all information upon which an award was based, by individual awardee's name and year of the award, and certify annually to Points of Light that such data bank is being  maintained and is current.  
  • If there is a time lag longer than 3 months between approving and purchasing the award and the actual award date, the Certifying Organization must recertify that the individual remains eligible for the award and maintains such  certification in the data bank. 

Qualifications of Applicant:

  • U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents 
  • Over 5 years old 

Application Time: 

  • The cumulative time limit of volunteers: 12 months from July 1st last year to June 31st of  current year 
  • Application submission date: July 1st – July 20th of current yea
  • Review date: 20th-30th July of current year 
  • Every August, Awarding Committee will apply the PVSA awards for the volunteers. Award ceremony date: September 

How to submit an application 

  • Download and fill out the Presidential Volunteer Award Application Form Tyee PTSA  website, attach proof of volunteer time, and the copy of green card or passport email to  pvsa@tyeeptsa.org by 7/20 of current year.
