Tyee Rocketry Club offers students hands-on experience in aerospace engineering, model rockets designing and building, teamwork, and problem-solving.
The club meets every Monday and Thursday from 4 to 6pm, with test launch sessions on selected Sundays (possibly Saturdays as weather dependent) from 9 am to 12pm. The first meeting starts on September 17 and the club is expected to run through early April 2027, likely followed by a shorter spring session from April to June.
This club will be participating in the national-level contest, The American Rocketry Challenge , known as TARC, the world's largest rocket contest for middle and high school students. Students will be organized into 5 teams consisting of 5 students each, learning the fundamentals of engineering and rocket construction before applying their knowledge to design, build, and test model rockets. The teams will aim to qualify for the national final, with potential to reach international competition as well. Students may also have opportunities to hear from industry leaders and experts as guest speakers and/or tour facilities such as Blue Origin if logistics allow.

Students and Parents are encouraged to attend. Please review the important information regarding application, selection process, and expectations of the club in the presentation slides below, as well as other helpful resources.
Both students and parents need to complete and sign the questionnaires/contract as part of the application.
Attending the parent info night in-person is not a requirement, however, by signing the applications students and parents confirm their understanding of the club expectations and rules. Failure to meet the commitment requirements will result in removal from the club.

Completed and signed application forms must be HAND delivered to Mr. Burke(Tyee Room 1304 ) no later than Thursday, September 17, by 4PM. Email delivery will NOT be accepted. Late delivery will NOT be accepted.
All fully completed and signed applications will be entered into a lottery, which will take place at 5PM, Thursday, September 17, and be witnessed and conducted by third party, likely random-selected Tyee teachers or staff other than Mr. Burke. Mr. Burke along with the coaches, club chair, and PTSA board may join the process. Only students who submit a completed & signed form will be eligible for the lottery.
Club acceptance notifications, along with a payment link, will be sent via email on Friday, September 18, by 10:00 PM.

Club Fee: $600 per student, non-refundable
This initial tuition covers up to qualification. Extra funding needs, if occurred, will be evenly distributed.
Additional fees will apply to teams qualified for national finals, which may include travel/lodging, additional materials and advising, registration fees for final, and etc.
Due date/time for payment: Saturday September 19th, 2026, by 11:59PM.
