On April 26th Tyee will hold our first Makers Market. Students can register to have tables to sell handmade items, or food or drinks they have created. Each product should have at least 4 items or 4 ingredients that you have put together to create your unique product, unless it's individually crafted, such as origami, crochet, face painting, caricatures, pottery, photography, braiding, etc. There will be a rental fee of $30.00 (deducted from their sales) which will go towards Redecorating The Staff Lounge. Each vendor will also choose a charity of their choice to donate a percentage of their sales. We encourage students to hold tables in groups of 2 or 3, but other student names can be added to your table in the future. We will host three workshops the last 10 minutes of each lunch period to help create sales ideas, price-point, and marketing. If you have a great idea, lock it in now! If not, you will have ample time to decide upon the perfect thing, with the PTSA's help.
Students can also showcase their talents on the Performance Stage during the Makers Market. You can play an instrument, sing, perform magic or juggle, a comedy routine - or other! You can receive donations just like a busker at Pike Place Market. Each slot is 10 minutes long. You can also have a vendor table at the event, just have someone to cover your table during that time. Those playing musical instruments must be in groups of 2-4.
Students have been sent a Sign Up on Teams. Please have your students check Teams to sign up for both the Student Table Sales and the Student Performances.
We are seeking more parents to get involved in our planning committee, particularly in the role of event Treasurer. Please contact Sirisha Tadepalli at makersmarket@tyeeptsa.org if you are interested in joining.
Wednesday, March 20th is the Parent/Student panel about Supporting your Middle Schooler at Tyee and Beyond. There is a change of location, this event will be hosted in the Library and not the commons. We look forward to our Tyee community attending.
Tyee PTSA is hosting this parent/student panel to hear from past Tyee students and Parents of High Schoolers on How to Best Support your Child in Middle School - Supporting healthy perspectives. This will be an interactive Q and A format, topics will range from first hand experience of finding balance physically, emotionally, academically for your child to how to learn from mistakes as students mature through their middle school years. We acknowledge that high school registration is also taking place, and we will have parents with high schoolers that would be happy to share their perspectives on transition to high school.
The panel serves as a parent education opportunity through first hand experiences. We recognize that our students are going through tremendous change in middle school and as this happens, how can we as parents be the best support to help them grow, learn from mistakes, and take on a positive perspective with managing all aspects of their development. Any questions that you would like to the panel to address on the 20th, feel free to email them before the 19th to parentpanel@tyeeptsa.org.
If your student is planning to play a Newport High School sport or Interlake High School in the spring, summer or fall of 2024, and you need to have a BSD high school medical history and physical examination form signed by your pediatrician.
